As I am sure many of you know, Taylor Swift has been getting lots of flack for her Grammy performance in some major publications.

Do you think it’s deserved?

Her label head, Scott Borchetta is speaking in her favor. The article as printed in The Tennessean is below.

Taylor Swift’s label chief responds to Grammy criticism

}
// ]]>On Tuesday, we reported on rampant criticism about Taylor Swift‘s performance on Sunday night’s 52nd Annual Grammy Awards — the same night she took home four trophies, including the top prize for Album of the Year.

Her duet with Stevie Nicks was widely panned by publications including the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post, bloggers and music fans on social networking sites. The backlash left Scott Borchetta, the head of Swift’s record label Big Machine Records, riled up. He responded to music critics’ reports late Monday night, but it was past our deadline. So here are his comments.

“The biggest message is (the critics) are not getting it,” Borchetta said. “Because the facts say she is the undisputed best communicator that we’ve got. When she says something, when she sings something, when she feels something, it affects more people than anybody else.

“Maybe she’s not the best technical singer, but she’s probably the best emotional singer because everybody else who gets up there and is technically perfect, people don’t seem to want more of it. … I think (the critics) are missing the whole voice of a generation that is happening right in front of them. … She’s an extraordinary songwriter and her vocal performances are getting better. Everybody is not perfect on any given day. If you pick any of those artists that performed (on the Grammy Awards) I’m sure you can go online and find something where you go, ‘ew.’ Maybe in that moment we didn’t have the best night. But in the same breath, maybe we did. And nobody is arguing with the awards.
“The critics are missing the bigger picture. This is what always happens and is the unfortunate part of the American dream, that we build these people up to watch the critics tear them down. Well, you better have more than what you’ve got now if you think you’re going to get in the ring and fight with us. So, get in the ring.”

Announced today is some huge news from the Big Machine/Taylor Swift camp about Ms. Swift.

Did you know, as of this weekend, Taylor’s Taylor Swift is the longest-charting album of this century!? That’s pretty incredible!

As a record-breaking album TAYLOR SWIFT, released in October of 2006, spends its 157th week on Billboard’s Top 200 albums chart, more weeks on the chart than any album this decade, surpassing the record previously held by Nickelback.

Other records that Taylor also holds include the Billboard record for most Top 10 debuts in a calendar year, and only solo female act in the 44-year history of the Billboard Country Chart to score five Top 10 singles from a debut album, longest-charting female Country star in the Nielsen SoundScan era, and is also the only Country artist in history to have a #1 single on Billboard’s Nielsen BDS Hot 100 Airplay chart (all formats).

But Taytay is not resting on her laurels with this news. The hardest working teen in show business has just released FEARLESS in a Platinum edition and is making the media rounds to promote.

This Saturday, November 7th, Taylor is set to host Saturday Night Live (NBC), and will also serve as the show’s musical guest that evening. Taylor joins a small number of artists who have pulled double duty on the show, a group that includes Justin Timberlake, Sting and Janet Jackson. The last time a female country artist was tapped to both host and perform was Dolly Parton, twenty years ago.

In addition to SNL, Taylor will appear tonight, November 2nd, on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and is set to perform on the CMA Awards on ABC on November 11th.

Taylor is nominated for four CMA Awards this year, and with six nominations is the top nominee for the 2009 American Music Awards.

No wonder she’s the youngest ever “Entertainer of the Year” nominee. Whew. I am tired just typing all of her plans for the week! Are you a Taylor Swift fan? Is she your top pick for “Entertainer of the Year?”

Also, be sure to vote on the new “Sum’s Up” poll on the main page! “What’s the BEST part of the CMA awards?”
