SINGLE REVIEW: Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me”

Fresh off her first number one single “White Liar,” country firecracker Miranda Lambert releases the ballad “The House that Built Me,” a haunting tribute to the place that holds more memories and truths than any other—your childhood home.

You leave home, you move on and you do the best you can/I got lost in this ole world and forgot who I am,” Lambert emotes over a simple acoustic guitar strum accompanied by a subtle slide.
Going back to her childhood home, the spotlight is on Lambert’s vocals as she glimpses at handprints on the front steps, visits the room where she learned to play guitar, and sees the tree under which her favorite dog was buried.
Even though the descriptions may be unique to Lambert, listeners can relate to wandering through adulthood in the hopes of building a foundation as sturdy and comforting as the first place they called home.
